Conor McGregor Goes After Firas Zahabi | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

Tristar Gym owner and famed MMA coach Firas Zahabi made a Q&A video on his YouTube channel where he espoused the view that, in a rematch, he expected Max Holloway to defeat Conor McGregor. In response, McGregor issued an insulting tweet wondering why Zahabi never fought professionally and demanded he keep quiet.

The response from the former champion is instructive because it’s a microcosm of how all of MMA works. We are stuck in an honor society where any perceived slight is taken as a grave insult to one’s character and the argument from authority reigns supreme. Enough.

  1. I don't think its an honor culture going on here… its a selfish pride culture. An honor culture would be to do the right thing inspite of your pride imho. This is quite the opposite.

  2. firas is actually not against having a fight, he just says it needs to be for enough money. well he has said that in the past. so that makes this whole tweet by conor and firas' response interesting.

  3. The insults MacGregor just threw at Firas applies equally to his own coaches. And if fighters knew everything about fighting, they wouldn't need coaches.

  4. Conor heard the name Nate and it triggered him. He went into defense mode. He has become really insecure lately. He wouldn't have to deal with doubters if he just fought more and put those doubts to rest.

  5. People are stupid. Don't you think McG is used to the talk? There probably hasn't been a week in the last 6 years or something where some MMA figure didn't say something about X or Y beating McGregor. In fact, Firas himself did at least 3 times. I remember him explaining how he doesn't see Conor defeating Eddie Alvarez and stuff. Conor is blathering his brand of crap because he's trying to keep his name in the (fighting) press and stay relevant.
