Alexander Gustafsson Questions USADA’s Strict Liability Standard

Alexander Gustafsson lost his bid for the UFC light heavyweight title against Jon Jones at UFC 232. Since then, however, his team – lead by his manager Nima Safapour – has questioned the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA)’s inconsistent application of the ‘strict liability’ standard.

As I argue in this video, he’s completely right to raise these issues and they shed light on the troubling, often ad hoc method by which anti-doping authorities will adjudicate cases.

  1. man gustafsson already said he could be on "rocket fuel" and that it didnt matter. well jones was on rocket fuel and guss got wrecked. end of story.

  2. Most people commenting have no idea about science. Luke just wants to talk and make a show. Jones has been punished for performance enhancing so if the subsistence in him is so low that it can never enhance his performance why destroy people’s career. Rules need to change because they are doing it correct right now. They might be violating the strict rules but the rules need to adapt as the science in finding doping is developing greatly. They’re picking up even traces of it the old drug. So no point of charging him and destroying a guys life for something he has already been punished for. So I mean be logically people. Common sense.

  3. why cant you people just go with experts last time he popped he was suspended the other times he was suspended why didnt they let him off the hook then huh hes off the hook now because hes innocent common fucking sense

  4. Funny how the rules only bend when your name is Jon Jones. If he returns a positive result then he should not be able to compete. It should be pretty black and white. If they dot want to suspend him, fine. But he should at the very least have been subjected to 6-12 months of frequent testing and only after which he would be able to fight again. Instead, he comes back from a weak suspension, tests positive again and is still allowed to fight. The concept of double jeopardy has no place here, if he's pissing hot for any reason he should be on the sidelines until he returns clean samples over a longer period of time. Especially considering his colorful record. It feels dirty just talking about this situation.

  5. Jon is shit no doubt. BUT, he said he didn't give a shit before he fought Jon. Regardless of why he said it etc…Don't say it if you don't mean it.
Simple reply he could of said was he had no opinion.
