At UFC on FOX 31, Edson Barboza defeated Dan Hooker, but not before Hooker took minute after minute of a completely unnecessary beating. Neither the referee nor his corner stopped the bout in a timely fashion. What’s the lesson here? The sport has a culture that rewards this behavior and until that changes, these kinds of outrageous maulings will continue until something catastrophic happens.

That being said. I do believe Barboza was throwing some heat at him. The Speed difference was obvious. Training with ISRAEL is cool but that won’t prepare you for the speed of Barboza.
Yup, how much beating can a fighter take when they're outclassed. Odds makers were morons to put Barbosa as an underdog.

It is not that simple… The fighter is too though for his own good! If the judge let the fight continue, them it continues… Maybe they should stop the fight like in boxing, if the fighter is getting beat up without answering, the ref should end it as tko… But mma is more complex, a lot of fights can finish too early creating another problem… Early stoppages… The fighter is to blame more than anyone else, in my opinion.
Hooker didn't pressure close enough and gassed early due to the body shots for staying at range. Barboza scared him off with big hooks but that was where he had a chance. When he got there he was looking tired and couldn't implement meaningful offence. I'm not sure if Barboza was hanging back in 3rd waiting for a stoppage after those spinning body kicks but Hooker was doubled over and there was zero defence. Barboza looked tired to me and was hunting for that killshot. The corner should have stepped-in after the second or the ref should of waived it when Hooker was essentially bowing to Barboza.
Holy fuck, thank you Luke. there comes a point when it's just sickening. I was so surprised the corner let him out for the third round. then when the doctor comes over at the end of the third I'm thinking to myself this fight is 100% over – and I was right.
the doctor straight up ask him what year it is and hooker responds with 2019; because literally he has no idea where he is. the doctor says okay no problem you're cleared to fight.. seriously? then I'm immediately thinking to myself okay, "the corners going to stop this as they realize dan isn't even aware of where he is right now". Then they send him out to round 4.. after listening to their fighter say its 2019. Fucking disgrace. it's literally disgusting watching these people put their Fighters life at risk for a higher check.
literally my only take away from UFC Fox 31 was "oh my gosh I hope hooker is okay". Thank you Luke, sometimes I wonder what's going thru these peoples heads and the only answer I have is either selfishness or just plain stupidity. Regardless these people don't deserve to corner someone like Hooker. Pray for Hooker.
Didn’t see Holloway vs. Ortega, but that was my concern. I worried about max not being able to put him away, and Ortega unwilling to quit. Ortega has that Gracie pride in his corner, and he feels like he has a life debt to them. A perfect storm. I sort of feel the same way when I watch shogun nowadays.
