TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo at 125? 3 Reasons Why | Luke Thomas

ESPN has reported TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo, despite rumors the fight would be held at bantamweight, will take place at flyweight instead. The bout is tentatively slated for UFC 233 in Anaheim. This move by UFC has surprised many, but whether one likes or hates the decision, there is at least some identifiable pressures and practices behind the move. I lay out three reasons why this fight is happening at this weight class.

  1. If TJ wins he moves back up to 135 and it's the perfect time for the UFC to announce the end of the Flyweight Division, if Cejudo wins now what? "Congratulations Champ, great performance, but you're fired and we're dissolving your weight class." ?

  2. That fight is a somewhat easy sell before they bury the entire division.

  3. But what if TJ loses? Another fight at 135? Because there is so many contenders at 135 than already need a title shot like assuncao and moraes for example

  4. TJ deserves to be the fighter getting the chance to become “Champ Champ” , much more so than Cejudo.
I bet TJ used his leverage in that sense & wanted the fight at 125
