TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo at 125? 3 Reasons Why | Luke Thomas

ESPN has reported TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo, despite rumors the fight would be held at bantamweight, will take place at flyweight instead. The bout is tentatively slated for UFC 233 in Anaheim. This move by UFC has surprised many, but whether one likes or hates the decision, there is at least some identifiable pressures and practices behind the move. I lay out three reasons why this fight is happening at this weight class.

The Luke Thomas Show airs weekdays, 3 to 6pm ET, on SiriusXM RUSH, channel 93.

  1. Tony Ferguson is the type of guy to shave his head BEFORE going to the barber

  2. The only reason I can see for having them fight at flyweight is so TJ can become a double-champ. And imo, TJ will most likely win.

  3. Good point, it can kind of provide some closure for the division, as well as giving continuity to the championship.

  4. Good breakdown luke. I think for me, I see it like this : The UFC sees the value in putting on these potential double champ opportunities, but they don't seem to want to LET the fighter defend in both weight classes (Conor, DC). It's perfect, because if TJ wins (he likely will, can't see Henry winning lol) , then it's fine, because he will be a "dual weight champ" , but once the division is SCRAPPED, he's back to a SINGLE weight champ.

  5. Originally Cejudo said he wanted to do it at 135, but Dillishaw wanted it at 125, and Cejudi is just so easy going he said he would do it wherever. I think Dillishaw is going to win, but I also think he didn't want to take a chance with his title.

  6. Connor, GSP, BJ, Randy and Daniel all went up a weight class and won the belt….

  7. What if …. this fight was made to make the argument that Mighty Mouse was overrated. Hear me out. If dillashaw wins, people can argue that dillashaw can easily beat Johnson then. If cejudo wins, he is instantly a star and his name mentioned as the best ever flyweight. It’s not like might mouse beat huge names. I understand that it’s not his fault that there weren’t stars in that division but this fight can be harmful to his legacy . UFC and Mighty Mouse rarely got along, I could easily see UFC doing this.

  8. UFC giving TJ the opportunity to be called 2 weight class champ
