Eddie Alvarez’s ‘8-Figure’ Contract With ONE: What’s the Truth? | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

Eddie Alvarez, the former UFC lightweight champion, spoke to ESPN this week and told them he’d signed an eight-figure deal with Asian-based ONE Championship. Alvarez engaged in a Twitter back and forth with writer Jonathan Snowden, who questioned the the truth of the claim. So, what’s the truth? The answer is no one knows and Alvarez is known to be straightforward and candid. If he is getting paid that much, it is very much deserved. But the reality is fighters, promoters and managers routinely lie to the MMA media. Even if Alvarez doesn’t, that practice means verifying unusual claims – ONE Championship exists on venture capitalist funding – is now a requirement of the job.

The Luke Thomas Show airs weekdays, 3 to 6pm ET, on SiriusXM RUSH, channel 93.

  1. everybody lie .. it's the society we live in , selfies , instagram and nonsense everywhere ! this is the our society now… i dont know if it's the "rappers age" with the show off all you dont have or what , i know this world is this.. the stupidity rule the world ! people dont know anymore wich are the good values in life , they dont know what to do or how to act .. i think we can officially call it the stupidity ages… i despise most of this

  2. Could be true for 10 fights. I could see that. I don’t think he’s a draw though

  3. Haha he's not worth 10 million dollars or more.
He's a over the hill burnout on his way out.
Maybe he'll do good in ONE, but in the UFC he would just keep getting merked

  4. In China, business and geopolitics are often intertwined, and this may explain Eddie's big pay day. China has a $10 billion p.a. foreign influence campaign that includes buying into Hollywood, a Times Square billboard, anti-Trump adverts in US newspapers, Confucius Institutes, and many other transnational relationships in sports, music, and art. China does this to promote a peaceful image of itself on the world stage, while its real aim is global Orwellian domination. Is ONE FC a legitimate business venture, or is it one of China's propaganda "front" companies? Is Eddie now an unwitting employee of China's propaganda department? (Yes they really have one). Is Eddie now a political pawn first, and a fighter second? I'd say the abnormally big package he received, tells you this is more than just a business transaction, it's a political transaction too. When you sign with ONE FC, China uses you to project a peaceful image of itself to the world, even if you are not consciously aware of it.

  5. how many times can you reiterate the same thought in one 12 minute video?

  6. checked out the report about One FC he's referencing. would be interesting to see the cashflow. Idk how 'barter transactions' can be received in cash… it seems like they are running huge cash deficits.

  7. IF it were true Eddie would have released the proof of contract. I’m sure most of the money is based on “incentives” and “accomplishments”, meaning its hopes and dreams, not guaranteed money.
