Chael only begins to give credit to fighters once they either lose or the public turns against them.
I was ok with Werdum before, but I gained a lot of respect for him in this last fight, more so than in previous ones

Werdum fell into the BJJ mental trap when fighting Volkov. Volkov knew Werdum wanted the fight on the ground because he is one of the deadliest fighters on the ground. That's why Volkov kept standing up and letting Werdum stand up because he knew he would beat him in the stand up game which showed in the 4th round KO. These BJJ guys in the UFC think they'll just pull guard or do a takedown that isn't set up and magically get some submission in the following minute but that never occurs. You see it with Werdum throwing kicks at Volkov knowing he's going to catch them, then his plan was to get Volkov to follow him to the ground when Volkov pushes his leg away which doesn't happen with a guy who knows what BJJ dudes want and didn't happen in this case with Volkov. Don't get me wrong, Werdum is one of the best BJJ practitioners out there but his fighting IQ in this fight was LOW.

Chair , werdum was on like a 3 or 4 fight win streak and as soon as he looses people want to bury him and talk him into retiring wtf man
