That's not old school mentality, that only means Werdum is one of the few alpha males in the UFC
I think Werdum is good, but quite overrated. His most major wins (Fedor and Cain) came under very particular circumstances, with Fedor being way over the hill and Cain obviously having trouble with the altitude.
I don’t think he would beat either of those fighters if they stepped in the ring without those limitations. Fedor dropped Werdum almost immediately and Cain decisively won the first round until he gassed.
Still one of the all time greats, but a step below Stipe, as well as both Cain and Fedor IMHO.
