Robert Whittaker Injured, Out of UFC 234!

According to UFC President Dana White, UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is out of his bout with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234. The previous co-main event, Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva, is now the main event. Whittaker reportedly suffered a hernia and there is no timetable for his return as of this time. The fights at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia will move forward on pay-per-view, but this is a major setback for Whittaker, the organization and perhaps the middleweight division. One has to at least anticipate the inclusion of a middleweight interim belt being created.

  1. With a hernia you can't do anything other than have surgery.

  2. Stylebender v Silva main event for interim belt. Gas. Gets winner. Winner gets whittaker when ready.. hmmmm… Thoughts?

  3. I'm acually really excited about some of the up and comers on this card. Some great match ups. Bummer that the title fight is off. But still some goodies for the hard cores.

  4. Maybe he knew about it before hand but he has a clause in his contract that says as long as he makes championship weight he still gets paid something if he gets injured or has to pull out after weigh ins.

  5. I'm focusing on the mouse breathing color…. I hate "breathing colors". Fix it Luke, no lights or always on.

  6. This kind of stuff never happens in boxing. MMA is almost too tough of a sport. It's what makes it awesome, but the amount of cancelled fights is ridiculous. Hope Robert has a speedy recovery, but I feel real bad for Kelvin.
