After UFC 234, should our assessment of Israel Adesanya downgrade his standing? Is he overrated? While it’s entirely understandable his contemporaries like Chris Weidman and Paulo Costa would believe so, the argument upon close inspection misses the forest for the trees. Anderson Silva did show some vulnerabilities Adesanya might have, but the overall upside he demonstrated is the bigger story.

No he is not
All I know is he looked less impressive than both Weidman and Bisping against an older Silva. You can argue he played it safe and could've done more, but that again speaks to his fighting style. You can't be a phenom if you're going to play it safe. Rather than the next Anderson Silva he looks more like the next Wonderboy, except less proven.

I'm not sure that going the distance with a 43 year old, 15th ranked Anderson Silva should set you up for a title shot. He should have a top 7 opponent first, and I may be wrong, but I think he loses to any of those guys.
If you look at this performance and think ahh he's not that good… you probably have never studied/trained kickboxing and have no clue how hard it is to move around with an opponent and time strikes on a moving target who is also a master of the game… oh you want to see a finish? So do they and any one of the exchanges in this fight could have resulted in one… but it doesn't always happen that way .. if you always expect the best fighters to take foolish risks and fight like a berserker then you should probably just watch an action movie and enjoy the fake bullshit. Learn to appreciate tactics and strategy over being a meat head.

When I watch the fight.. I believe if Anderson was in he's prime he would bet Adesanya easily.. I like to see Adesanya fight a top 5 middleweight to see how good he really is..
