GSP to Retire After Khabib Nurmagomedov Fight Falls Through

Georges St-Pierre (GSP) is to set to retire Thursday, according to a report from TSN, the Canadian ESPN. That report stated GSP decided to call it career after an attempted bout with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov failed to materialize.

Was the UFC right for failing to make this fight? It depends. After GSP defeated Michael Bisping and won the middleweight title only to immediately drop it, the UFC likely didn’t want that happening. Lightweight already has existing problems trying to get the right fights made for Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz. If it was a money issue, they still likely reached the right outcome. If the bout was a possibility for a 165-pound division and the UFC still balked, that would be a mistake.

  1. There is no person alive or valid reason to not have this fight. It would probably be better than Jones vs. Gus 1 or Romero vs. Whittaker 2.

  2. WTF! 155 is not a devision , Khabib is 145, GSP can't make 145 why the questions?….Good move for UFC not to bite… GSP is a fantastic memory , more fighters need to mimic him, not keep mimicing this idiot bullshit that has gone on last 2.5 years….p.s. this ain't boxing thank god

  3. It's not sad that GSP retired. I would love to see all fighters follow his example. I look forward to hearing a intelligent, clear minded, GSP interviewed at UFC 500.

  4. i agree… Poirrier should be promoted, talented and a great person inside and out the cage.
i think and just MO,, Khabib leaves ufc, Gsp and Khabib goes to Bellator and it pulls the biggest ppv buys. Gsp vs Khabib…
Russia vs Canada..just like what khabib said. his words not mine.
    lets do it

  5. Dana White's ego is stopping this amazing fight. He can't stand that fighters can control their own career. That idiot Dana White wasted hundreds of millions not doing this because of his ego

  6. Don't be afraid to say it, the UFC is a monopoly. The fighters get CTE and a few dimes to cover trainers, MD's and dieticians at the higher levels. The UFC takes over 90% of the revenue and more than 75% of the profits. Be prepared for the tribal attack of the attorneys to get a few shekels for the fighters, while the new UFC owners continue to take the vast majority of the loot.

  7. The decline of ufc was this birth of casuals, Reebok, and the funky bunch ownership. From commentators to fans, the casuals have lost the once great ufc brand to stupidity.

Let's be honest! Before the 1st rd began of the Conor vs Khabib fight, no one ever once mentioned should GSP face the winner. Why is GSP now the issue? Because of moron casuals who think all of a sudden, GSP is entitled to jump ahead of Tony and fight Khabib. This is why ufc sucks, and why 3 of the top 5 155ers want to leave. I don't blame them, ufc is preventing their careers from advancing.

Tony wants to move to 145 to get the shot he's been waiting for since Conor jumped to 155 to take an easy belt from Alvarez. How many years ago was that? Now casuals wanted GSP to also jump in front of Tony? Why not, he jumped in front of others to take an easy Bisping belt too. Thanks casuals for screwing up everyone and everything and the dumbasses pushing this crap like Ariel, Chael, and Meisha.

We also have Iaquinta and Porier wanting contract release to move elsewhere to advance their careers. All three of these guys want out of ufc or out of 155 because money fightards get to push them away from success and opportunity for years in some cases.

This is the new moron casual ufc. You guys can have it, you deserve it!

  8. GSP has only fought once in the last 5 years, he was done a long time ago
