UFC 235 Shake-Up! Woodley vs. Usman Is On | Luke Thomas

According to reports, Jon Jones will face Anthony Smith to defend his light heavyweight belt at UFC 235 on March 2nd. That will serve as that event’s headlining bout. The co-main event, however, will by Tyron Woodley defending his strap against Kamaru Usman. Former interim champion Colby Covington is healthy and ready to compete, but apparently UFC brass have soured on him and decided to reward the surging Usman. What does all of this mean? Here are four takeaways.

  1. Dana is hoping Usman wins so he can do to Woodley what he did to Aldo, Stipe and now Cyborg. The way he is bigoted and plays favorites in not professional as a promoter and rather pathetic.. He will dump Nunes and Usman if he wins in time, after they have served their purpose.

  2. If the UFC believes Jones actually be able to fight and bring in the ppv numbers they want anyway, and if Woodley-Covington will bring in more views/$ than Woodley-Usman, then they could have switched up the order so they can use Woodley – Covington on a later card where they need a fight they can hype up. No matter what this all just shows how erratic and unpredictable the UFC is, and how little as you said the title and the rankings matter. Fights are selected like high school elections on popularity contests.

  3. This is ridiculous. Covington is the true #1 contender and should be next for the Woodley fight. The ufc is insane. They always want these kind of fights now days where the champion doesn't fight the #1 contender and that's bullshit. That's how combat sports are supposed to work. Ridiculous.

  4. Dana let his ego get in the way, ONCE AGAIN! He'll be pissed when he realizes he just booked a snoozefest and Tyron will still hold the strap!

  5. Woodley vs usman is uber wack man.

Woodley vs Colby is actually interesting in multiple front besides just what happens in the octagon.

But now what happens with Colby? Does he keep sitting out waiting for the winner? Would he even get the winner?

  6. Usman has essentially been following in Colby's footsteps: Colby beat Maia, then Usman beat Maia. Colby beat RDA, then Usman beat RDA. I get that Usman had a more dominant performance vs RDA, but this was an RDA that was coming off of a loss – not the win-streak RDA that Colby faced. BOTH Colby and Usman are DESERVEDLY CONTENDERS, but Colby got those wins first AND he was the interim belt holder. I just don't see how Colby gets passed up on this one…..

  7. I'm usually quite hard on Luke when he's part of a panel but really like this form of updates. Nice job Luke!

  8. The UFC is s circus….What a horrible time for ESPN to get involved with these clowns. An amazing sport who's top company is run by imbeciles.
