The TJ Dillashaw-Henry Cejudo Stoppage Wasn’t Great, But…

At UFC Brooklyn (UFC on ESPN+), Henry Cejudo stopped TJ Dillashaw in about 30 seconds. After the bout, UFC President Dana White heavily criticized referee Kevin MacDonald for, in his estimation, calling the fight far too early.

White argued the New York commission made a mistake by putting an allegedly inexperienced referee in a high-stakes situation above their professional capabilities. The truth is, however, MacDonald has been refereeing for 15 years. While I agree the stoppage was not great, it wasn’t terrible either. It was OK and while that’s cold comfort, it’s also not a place worth getting irate.

  1. Yea the fight should have went on , but on the other hand T.J was getting rocked before that..so yea iffy..T.J keeps getting rocked, seems like every fight lately .
That chin is going to start wear .

  2. It was definitely too early…TJ could have recovered. He was conscious and defending himself. The referee fucked up.

  3. Too…early…stoppage. End of story. The fact that we're having this discussion is the proof that it was a bad stoppage.

  4. It was fine, how many knockdowns do you need to see in 30 seconds before you stop the fight?

    Dillashaw could not stand consistently.

  5. 100% agree. The fact TJ was "trying" to shoot a single doesn't mean he was fine or "working". How many times have we all seen a fighter shoot that same single leg on the ref after a stoppage; that shit is just instinct, or could be and often is anyway.
