The TJ Dillashaw-Henry Cejudo Stoppage Wasn’t Great, But…

At UFC Brooklyn (UFC on ESPN+), Henry Cejudo stopped TJ Dillashaw in about 30 seconds. After the bout, UFC President Dana White heavily criticized referee Kevin MacDonald for, in his estimation, calling the fight far too early.

White argued the New York commission made a mistake by putting an allegedly inexperienced referee in a high-stakes situation above their professional capabilities. The truth is, however, MacDonald has been refereeing for 15 years. While I agree the stoppage was not great, it wasn’t terrible either. It was OK and while that’s cold comfort, it’s also not a place worth getting irate.

  1. Watched it back in slow motion, good stoppage in terms of punches to the head but tj was still in the fight and could've won. Just wait a couple more seconds before jumping in. This wasnt a TKO, the ref pretty much threw in the towel. Way too early in the fight

  2. When your head becomes a pinball, it's a good stoppage

  3. Agree 100%. Could have went on a bit. But could have and should have are different. Fair stoppage

  4. The Weasel has a video on his channel "What really happened in the Henry and TJ fight" that shows the ending a little closer and it changed my view. Initially i thought the stoppage was early. After the weasels video, I think it was a great stoppage.

  5. People tend to think that if the fight was allowed to go on, they would start again at square one. If that fight continued, TJ would have continued to get BEAT ON. His "single leg" that he was claiming to attempt was only there for him becasue Henry knew he could pull his leg out whenever he wanted, so he got in position to hammer down shots.

  6. If anything i feel as if the fight was stopped a tad bit late. after the second knockdown he should have stopped right away
