Stephen Thompson ‘surprised’ to get called out by Anthony Pettis

Stephen Thompson catches up with Ariel Helwani and says he was “excited just to get offered a fight” when Anthony “Showtime” Pettis was offered to him at UFC Fight Night: Nashville in April after not fighting for seven months. Thompson says his knee is “100 percent” after being injured for a while. He says he and Pettis have “a similar style” and Pettis is a great fighter. He says Pettis is “best prepared” for his style than anyone else in the division. He also says he wants Kamaru Usman to beat Tyron Woodley for the betterment of his own career.

  1. I've never been so convinced that one guy is gonna win a fight until this one. I hope for pettis's sake he saw something that only he could capitalise on hence why he took the fight but he's becoming too much of an active participant these days and seems to have used the weight and injuries as justifications for losses to ignore the technical stuff. I'm really surprised stephen couldn't get a welterweight to fight him but atleast pettis is a name.
