Did UFC Stop Caring What We Think? | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

Was 2018 the year the UFC and its president Dana White stopped caring what we think? According to an article by Ben Fowlkes at MMAJunkie, it just might be. From moving UFC 232 last minute to accommodate Jon Jones’s situation to placing domestic abuser Greg Hardy on the same card as domestic abuse victim Rachael Ostovich, UFC took both of those issues in stride despite blowback from fans or media or both. Was 2018 the year they stopped caring about criticism?

In this clip from my radio show, I give a couple of reasons why that might be true.

  1. I think Dana White and the UFC stopped caring a while before 2018. It's simply about money, and the only time they pay attention is when it hits them in the pocket.

  2. Don't know why but that 1 hair hanging from the bottom of his beard is really irritating me

  3. I think the perception is the UFC doesn't care about criticism in part because of the face of the business, Dana White. The UFC is really weird, they want and expect to be on the NBA, MLB and NFL level but don't conduct themselves as such. All those leagues have their own issues of course but the UFC doesn't treat their athletes the same (no union or cba) and the boss of the league isn't the face.

  4. What media that covers the UFC currently exists that hasn't been coopted by the UFC? They have ensured that they have a direct or indirect financial arrangement with the company and they can only risk so much without jeopardizing that relationship. UFC is creating a model that other sports organizations are beginning to implement. Good bye independent journalism, hello access journalism!

  5. Anyone else think luke sounds exactly like Kenny powers from eastbound and down

  6. Dana has really misstepped with the Jon Jones situation. We're seeing that decision by Dana to cover up for a 6 time drug test failure, he lost all credibility. But he didn't just kill his own credibility, what is irreparable is how Dana killed the credibility of USADA, Jeff Novitsky, Joe Rogan, and the California Athletic Commission. There is no coming back from this as long as they push a guy who snitched to reduce a suspension and the company covered up for him numerous times. There is no honor in the sport now. The cover-up is not forgivable.
