The Truth About Weight Cutting | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

When Rafael dos Anjos moved from lightweight to welterweight, everyone sung the praises of the move. Not only would he be making a healthy decision, but he’d do well in the division. That is mostly true. However, after his second consecutive loss – the last against Kamaru Usman – many of those same people are observing just how undersized he is against true welterweights. The answer to his problem is a 165-pound division, but his predicament lays bare some harsh truths about the value of weight cutting.

The Luke Thomas Show airs weekdays, 3 to 6pm ET, on SiriusXM RUSH, channel 93.

  1. RDA says he walks around at 190 lbs. He's not small for that division. Most of the guys at 170 walk around at 190-200. Kamaru Usman just had a better game plan

  2. Everybody said the same thing? Idk anyone who said any of this. Rda isn’t a good defensive wrestler. Khabib did the same thing to him.

  3. Nobody is saying there is no advantage to cutting weight. Lol. I swear Luke just argues with imaginary people to get his point across

  4. Go back to the real days when there were no weight classes. Weight ain’t a big deal you hillbillies

  5. McGregor at 165 ??? He should drop some muscle and go back to Featherweight if he wants to be Champ again. Tony beats Conor as well.

  6. This might sound mean, but whenever I see a fighter cutting a crazy amount of weight I assume it's for one of 2 reasons, they lack the athleticism, or the confidence, to be competitive at a more natural weight for them. Otherwise, why would they risk having a stroke before a fight? It seems doubtful one could even compete at one's best after draining oneself so much. Unless they were used to doing it all the time, like they started wrestling in grade school or something.
