  1. I just realized… the mysterious, ever present, invisible cameraman in the back seat… never credited… yet so busily capturing the front seat action… and again…Jay owns the road… totally disegarding other traffic and lane markers…

  2. We get to see Jay's TV show in UK, now. My wife will even watch. She says Jay is Mr. Nice Guy. She's right about that.

  3. This unusual type 3 looks a bit like the later (and also uncommon) type 4. My favorite type 3 is the early wagon, with the single, center-mounted solex carburetor, as opposed to the later dual carb or injected setups.

  4. At the height of my VW days say 30 years ago between a friend of mine and me we also had a bunch of vw's. Type III's a 62 notch and variant on up through the bad years and in between. We drove them, bought and fixed and sold them as well as parted out those that best leant themselves to that… We found a cream colored one of these basically as a barn find, burried in junk in storage. Its person just wanted the storage empty. We had no idea what it was, first we ever heard of such a car. And there was no looking up something online on the spot… I don't know why but were stupid to see any value and were thinking the hassle to dig it out.I think when the price hit free we started digging it out but all 5 tires it had were flat and we had only one spare and were short one to be able to tow it with our tail dragger setup. At that point we decided having a beer sounded better and walked away…. I called a expert friend who had a parts shop and I learned what the car was and those things were worth more then any other type III' then.. Even if you parted it out that is good as you know the parts are helping another rare model go on. Of course by then it was gone….. I work for a guy right now that has his dads gark green 1969 shelby gt350 burried under empty boxes where its sat on its mostly flat bias tires for over 15 years… Dad and him went and bought it new and his dad was nuts about its care. Paint under dust is better then whats on my truck his dad was fanatical in its care up until he got ill and stopped driving. Nothing at all has happened to it except a few years back some guy said he wanted to buy it so car cover came off and they pulled outside. The guy tried to say worthless ands its owner offended he put back in garage (minus cover) where it sits to the day with a community of empty boxes thriving in the dust on top of it… its a survivor that what i can see looks,, well my restricted view could not see any big flaws in anything.. the chrome may have some spotting. it is almost 50 years old. He nor me to be honest know how best to sell it so it sits which he does not seem to mind even though he is not a car guy. Its his dads. And I can see the love his dad had for the car. Id just like to see it in sunlight and peek under the hood.. Its so tempting seeing what i can so often but not the rest
