The Problem With Athletic Commissions | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

Nevada will adopt the new Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), but not with the same definition of a grounded opponent. They are not the only state to carve out this exception. Other state athletic commissions make adjustments to other rules, all of them involving hugely difficult, complex and consequential aspects of about, leaving the fighter to worry about an array of competing rule sets. Is this really the best way to govern a sport? I’m not calling for the abolition of state governing bodies, but one can hardly view these as modern tools equipped with modern sensibilities.

The Luke Thomas Show airs weekdays, 3 to 6pm ET, on SiriusXM RUSH, channel 93.

  1. +Luke Thomas LUKE CAN YOU PLEASE DO A VIDEO ABOUT THE FOX PBC FIRST QUARTER BOXING SCHEDULE THAT WAS RELEASED LAST NIGHT… THANKS!

  2. When ever someone gets kneed in the head. I'm like "awesome Wait! did he win, no is he disqualified, wait what State is this in. What rules are they using, are both his knees down, does he have one hand down, does he have two hands down. Does the announcer know the rules, do the fighters know the rules, does the ref even know the rules?????? Kinda confusing…

  3. Is there ever a situation were instant replay could be used and if the decision is reversed they could reset the fight instead of just making it a No contest? It would be nice if it could, but I don't know if that's possible.

  4. The Problem: Bitch's who can't fight trying to make rules and regulations for fighters. I am shocked more AC members have not been killed by fighters over the years for robbery.

  5. The solution to the downed-opponent problem:
    Remove the rule.
Allow for kneeing of a downed opponent but don't allow for any kind of football style kick unless they are standing.
That way whatever limb is either on the ground, or halfway on the ground, or who gives a shit on the ground… you can knee, regardless, and in any situation.
But, kicking with the foot isn't.
    That's it.

I have very simple fixes for the weight cutting problems as well.
    No joke.

  6. Luke is also part of the problem, when he ignores commission fuckery to fit his narrative, like him repeating that Yoel Romero can't make weight. Yoel missed championship weight by 0.2 after his weigh cut was interrupted early by the Illinois commission which forced him to weigh in almost an hour earlier than he was allowed in the 2 hour window, ignoring their own doctors' diagnoses. This has been confirmed by ATT owner Dan Lambert and nutritionist George Lockhart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLeoRn5msgg&feature=youtu.be&t=72 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ3iT72GKe8
