Solomonster answers a BUY OR SELL question about the bigger match that was given away on free television, Goldberg vs. Hollywood Hogan on WCW Monday Nitro or Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar on Smackdown in an Iron Man Match?

  1. Hogan vs Goldberg should've headlined that PPV instead of being given away on a random Nitro.

I get that WCW wanted to take back the lead in the Monday Night War and they were in Goldberg's hometown at the time, but there's a time and a place to put stuff on free TV. This was not one of those times.

That match could've easily increased PPV buys because of how over Bill Goldberg was. Fans wanted to see him win that belt and would've gladly paid hand over fist to see it.

So bad business move on WCW's part. Bischoff cared WAY too much about the ratings over PPV buys.

And that was the one and only time Goldberg and Hogan ever wrestled. They never wrestled each other again, Hogan never got his rematch after losing the belt. They probably never wrestled again because Hogan refused to lose to Goldberg a second time.

One loss was enough in his twisted mind.

  2. Although to be fair, Goldberg did win his title on free TV, however it was in front of a hometown crowd 41,412. Furthermore, TV ratings were way more important back in the 90's then they are today.

  3. Hogan vs Luger on the 100th Nitro, smack dab in the middle of the nWo angle gets a nod for me, Hollywood had been champ for like a year, Sting was gone and Lex made Hulk submit with the rack, now Hulk won the belt back like a week later but the moment was awesome.
