The UFC announced it’s building a Performance Institute in Shanghai, China, set to open in 2019. Like the original Performance Institute in Las Vegas, it’ll be a state-of-the-art facility, but the one in China will be three times as big and offer a lot more. Specifically, they’ll be in in-house MMA-specific trainers. When you begin to think about how that actually works and what that might mean, it doesn’t become crazy to think – intentionally or not – the UFC could end up creating their own MMA team in the process.

  2. Building the sports from the ground-up is the only way in China since mma is not in Olympic so Chinese government won’t support it, and let’s be real we Chinese can’t get our shit together without help from the government.This is especially true for sports

  3. China has a lot of people ofc so people will buy the Chinese PPV's. Also China has a lot of talent that I don't think the most people in the west know about so this is going to be super exciting and it is a smart move from the UFC all around

  5. The greatest champion in ufc history comes out of Canada. Why aren't they putting an institute there? Out of the 200+ events there's only been 1 held in Ottawa. Kinda seems like ufc doesnt care about Canada.

I bet you its part of the deal with the Chinese Gov. to have coaches at this facility, Bryan Fogel's Icarus really opened my eyes to how import sports is on the global chess board, and what will make a country look stronger than to have the best fighters in the world come from that country, we do a similar thing here in the US with tax breaks to incentivize companies to open a new building in a state
