Is UFC getting Ben Askren while ONE Championship gets Demetrious Johnson an even trade? Well, technically speaking, no. Both are champions and celebrated athletes, but Johnson’s MMA resume as a pound-for-pound great is almost beyond compare. However, whether it’s an even trade is not the question to ask. Rather, are both parties getting something they lack and something they want? In that case, the welterweight for the flyweight makes all the sense in the world.

  1. For One, DJ will sale more overseas. And he legitimises them. For the UFC, Ben – if matched properly – will draw more money. He's Chael 2.0. Both parties win.

  2. Gonna be odd for Ben i think he's always fought at natural weight never cut 40 lbs like alot of ufc guys.. but maybe thats an advantage.. guess we will soon find out..

  5. The UFC got the deal of the century, they milked Mighty Mouse for all that he was worth and he proved himself to be resistant to wanting to take risks and become a PPV draw. Askern on the other hand is still untested at the elite level and is arrogant and has true potential to headline a few UFC PPV cards.

  6. Absolutely not. Ben 'Lay&Pray' Asskren is garbage, and doesn't want to fight the welterweight champion because they're friends. Sounds like a pointless acquisition, not to mention giving up a top guy for no reason to get a retired unproven old curly haired bum.

  7. I think Pat Militich said it best, Askren is being brought in as a hit man, piss off the UFC at 155 or 170 they feed you to this guy, who makes everyone look bad.

  8. No. They traded a complete well-rounded fighter for a wrestler. That being said, I'm happy for DJ. ONE suits him much better.

  9. I think Ben can generate more PPV sales, because of the potential match ups that can now happen. Ben is a good shit talker, much better than Colby, and I think the fans will get behind him after 3 fights.

  10. Ben Askren will be smashed in the UFC so so badly. This is not the C level fighter's league here.
