Whoever is perceived to be the best is…

Often the athletes we call the “greatest” are the ones who receive the most amount of promotion. With a lack of a competitive architecture to determine who is actually the best, fans often default to those who receives the most press. Chael Sonnen gives his thoughts on his You’re Welcome podcast.

  1. I like that term competitive architecture. That's the one thing the UFC needs to work on. I hope they adopt a tournament format at some point. They could have a tournament division and a legacy division. That's all I have to offer.

  2. Not sure how Chael constantly talks about how easily he buys into the marketing of a fight when it comes to MMA and then he somehow completely misses it when it is in regards to boxing. If peak Floyd is boxing Conor there's absolutely no point in tuning in to that. Same as Conor fighting Floyd in the octagon. Floyd's age and possibly Conor's size and unorthodox style were the only possible narrative angles to sell that fight on, as, like you said, the shit shouldn't have been sanctioned in the first place. They had to manufacture intrigue somehow.
