83 Weeks #9- Great American Bash 1998

Eric wasted no time getting fired up at Conrad and the yelling was early and often in this one. Eventually the guys get around to discussing Dennis Rodman coming into WCW, Eric changing the schedule around for the boys, the end of the Orlando syndicated tapings, first day ticket sales for the Georgia Dome Nitro,

the Jerry Sags lawsuit, the drug testing policy in more detail, what match Eric thinks you could put up against any Monday Night War era match, the silliness of Juventud’s video on this show, poor Ron Reis, the horrible finishes on this show, what Doug did to ruin a match for Eric, Eddie’s improv on this show, what made Eric sad about this show, why the Hogan/Bret tag didn’t work, the thing Eric’s wife could do better than these guys did, the silliness of a singles match for the tag titles, the Giant smoking, and Eric buries a guy to the point Conrad shuts the show down! Don’t miss another controversial 83 Weeks!

  1. Bischoff is so full of shit… HE made Razor bigger??? he had NO clue what to do with him or Steve Austin or Nash until the WWF made them big stars!!! then he recycled wwf castoffs… kudos on that… other than Goldberg, Bischoff made NO ONE a star who wasnt already decent… Verne Gange made Hogan a star???? Hilarious!

  2. If Bischoff is such a genius why is he doing a PodCast while Vince is still a billionaire?? Check Mate asshole.

  3. During Vince's INITIAL WM push, those guys were READY FOR PRIME Time! I'm talking once he brought in Hogan,Andre, Snuka, Santana, Piper, Steamboat, Orndorff, Studd, Bundy, US Express, etc. All Vince had to do was use his new age marketing and production to make them bigger. And in the case of some of them, gave them a new nickname. Or gave them a mascot. Even once Savage came in, Savage was already who he was. Vince just added Liz to the mix. Jake was who he was. He just wore flashier trunks and had a snake.

Once we get into Taker, Beefcake, Adorable Adrian, Bossman, Akeem, Repo Man, Demolition, etc. those are LEGIT characters Vince created. And of course down the road in the Attitude Era with Austin, Rock, D-X, Mankind, etc. In the case of Hogan, the AWA created that Hulkamania wave. Once Hogan went to WWF in late 83, he was READY TO WIN the strap immediately. BECAUSE in the AWA, Hogan with Verne's help found his niche. Vince just had the right stuff to push Hogan to his ultimate star power. NO OTHER company could have done that with Hulk.

Verne should have pulled the trigger and made Hogan champ. At least he could have kept Hogan in the company longer. And POSSIBLY have him around long enough to coincide with the LOD, Brody, Abby, Hansen, and the Freebirds coming in down the road. So instead of Hogan leaving in late 83, maybe he stays another year or two.

  4. Can't agree with Eric's comments on Raven. The guy was cutting some of the best promos in the company at this time. His matches were consistent too.
