83 Weeks #14: Monday Nitro from 7-29-96

Hulk Hogan is officially a bad guy and WCW is now in the driver’s seats for Monday night ratings. The angle they did on this show created real-life chaos and was masterfully done. Of course Hog Wild was the next PPV but they were really building towards Clash of the Champions with Hogan vs. Flair and what many believed to be Horsemen vs. nWo at War Games in September. This week Eric explains the difficulties of shooting outdoors, why it was done here at Disney, what restrictions they had on WCW, why Turner couldn’t care less during this month, and specifically what challenges were presented with doing production for WCW shows. And of course, everyone has to give “props” to the “Macho Man” for committing to a scene the way no one ever has before on this show!

  1. Wow that episode was disappointing. Just milking the tit for all its worth on every platform at this point. Really hope Conrad is banking millions off this shit.

  2. I love the podcast, but still waiting on Starcade 97, I want to see Eric squirm to give us an excuse as to how Hogan didn't play a role in botching the finish because of course he never said "that doesn't work for me brother." Also, I wish somebody would do one of these episodes exclusively on the Stinger (Steve Borden), nobody ever really "shoots" on him. It would be great to see an episode dedicated to him, such as an episode that was done on Chris.

  3. They have to plug ads on the show. This cost time and money to make these videos.

  4. Apologies if they mentioned it and I missed it, but I love the foreshadowing of Sting picking up the bat as he gets into the ambulance.
