Who was at fault…Max Holloway, Brian Ortega or the UFC?

  1. fighters look for belts too much these days, and they strategize to get there. In that pursuit they disassociate being the best with being able to beat everyone. they're purely focused on their path to the belt and their shot at the belt, which deems them the best. Whats funny to me is that I think a lot of fans cheer for and pay more to see fighters who: strive to put on great fights, fight anyone who challenges them, don't care so much about their legacy, and can bounce back from losses. Thats how you make the big bucks in my opinion, not belts. Example, people will want to see stipe fight next, frankie, cowboy, hunt, aldo, mike perry even. Belts obviously mean a lot but how you get there is also important. EDIT: add DC, Garbrant, even guys like rumble, hendo, lyoto, orlovski, bisping to the mix, some are retired but still.

  2. Stop the bullshit. Max was at fault. He should be more careful. It was his weight cut. He is he one who water loaded. It was his health and he is the one who, now for the 3rd time, did not fulfil the agreement. If it was that serious, we would have heard more news. The only official thing we read is the thing about water loading. That’s his fault, and no one but his own fault. I hope he recovers, but he is to blame for this. The company isn’t at fault at all, and Brian is to not be blamed in this situation. He would have got his contracted show money, but his contract doesn’t work that way. His contract states that he gets money to fight. There is 1 payment, rather than 2. This is 3rd time this happened. Max should have been stripped or an IC fight should have been made. Ik they didn’t offer it as t city said he will fight for a title multiple times lol.

  3. Anyone who's familiar with risk management can see the problem in the current MMA model.
There is a huge problem (and not just in MMA) with current economical perceptions where owners of a corporation expect employees to assume the responsibility of an owner, the risk of an independent contractor and the reward of neither.
To call it stupid would be an understatement.
It may not follow the same negative ratio but the closest model will be playing the lottery.

  4. Brian Ortega should have been paid…he did everything asked of him… but due to unforeseen circumstances .. in other words, no fault of his own, the fight could not go ahead. Lets not mix words.. the UFC is having it both ways. Lets not be petty and sassy – pay the young man.

  5. I think a situation w/ Brian Ortega and his team is that when they hear the news the fight is cancelled after so much build up, they are upset and very disappointed. It's such a let down to think about doing something else at that point. But, Chael is right. The show must go on. I remember the situation he was talking about w/ Dan Henderson and Jon Jones (Chael was the replacement fighter, by the way. He left that part out) and I remember vehemently defending Jon on forums like this one. He didn't train for this guy, the styles are different, blah, blah, blah. Jones should have taken that fight, in retrospect. No offense to Chael, but Jones was the superior fighter, along w/ having a training camp to prepare. If something fluke happens, it happens. But you take that fight. I feel the same about Ortega and Jeremy Stephens. No offense to Stephens – and he can hurt anybody – but Ortega has done the high level training, whereas Stephens is walking in off the street. Ortega should take that fight, if for no other reason, the company he represents asked him to. You can never take human nature out of the equation. When the rope slipped and they needed him to step up, he let them down. (in their eyes).

  6. I agree with chael… if u say u r the best but dont wanna fight jeremy cause he might get a lucky punch and ko you, leaving u out of title shot, then u dont believe u r the best and u r not approaching the situation like u r the best. The best would never see that as a possibility and take any fight if the original fight got cancelled, regardless of the situation. A true champ doesnt give a fuck about how losing could influence chances at title shot cause a champ would not consider losing a possibility…. thats why we love max, khabib, stylebender, till, cause people like this is always down to fight if they are able to regardless of rankings and situations, as long as the money is on point its go time!!!!
