New crowned UFC lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov predicts he will face former Champ Conor McGregor next. But with the uncertainty of the division and the dominant contenders waiting in the wings in Kevin Lee, Dustin Poirier, and Eddie Alvarez…who will become the next official contender?

  8. I've said it before and will say it again. Tony is the best lightweight in the world. Better than Khabib and much better than Conor. He should only learn to be less cringey and not look stupid.

  9. The belt doesn't mean that much compared to the work the fighter has put in and who they've faced. To get a shot at the belt you need a mix of luck, skill and you probably also need Dana to like you or be dominant to the point where your opportunity is undeniable. It's a business at the end of the day and ofc they can't influence the outcome of a fight but through matchmaking they can still play favourites and put certain people in positions for a title shot or fast track them. Tony has a 10 fight win streak in killers row. Fuck the belts for a minute Alvarez beat RDA once and won the belt compared to Tony beating Barbosa, RDA, Lee, Tibau and Thomson. Does that mean objectively Alvarez is a better fighter than Tony because he's been a world champion and Tony hasn't? Fuck no. Even if Tony doesn't come back as the same fighter real fans know the work he put in and just how good he was in that cage. I like to judge fighters based on their skills, how they perform under pressure and their consistency and he displayed them all. He just got unlucky by getting injured. If you ask me the entire 500+ days Conor didn't defend his belt Tony was the real champion at lightweight. Fuck the belt he was considered the real champion because of his skill who he beat and the work he put in. If you ask me that's worth a lot more than a shiny belt around your waist for winning a single fight. A real champion is the best fighter in the division and someone who proves it time and time again on a consistent basis not someone whos pushed and given an opportunity based on financial incentives
