Chael Sonnen: Hector Lombard DID NOT break any rules…

The UFC 222 fight between Hector Lombard and CB Dollaway ended with a disqualification of Lombard do the strikes being thrown after the bell. Chael Sonnen disagrees with the ruling…

  1. the tapping incident happened in a early royce gracie fight also where the ref did not see, the other fighter soon admitted to tapping.

  2. Right on with the ref not the bell or horn. Joe Rogan and others cant remember Holly Holm vs Germaine de Randamie.

  3. Lombard won and Dollaway, even though he was hurt, was clearly acting up.

  4. Chael I think you're wrong on this one, if you look at the official UFC rules it doesn't say anything about the referee being the one to stop the two fighters (which he did anyway, by saying "time" and putting his hand between them). However, in the 'fouls' section of the rules, it is clearly stated that it is a foul to strike your opponent after the bell has sounded – hence the DQ.

  5. Wasn't you one of the people that complained about that same thing about GDR vs Holly Holm.

  6. I love Sonnen's candor but this argument is flawed. Yes you should protect yourself at all times, it is also the referee's job to protect the fighters from illegal strikes that they are not expecting to defend, as well as enforce penalties for illegal actions. Hector threw two shots, deliberately well after the round ended. One had serious heat and most likely concussed Dolloway. The legal and fair thing to do is call off the fight and award the fighter rendered unable to continue by mutliple illegal strikes his win money

  7. Thank you Mr. Sonnen, you are absolutely right! During the fight between Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holmes, Germaine did the same thing to Holly twice. Instead of being punished she was rewarded with the belt, the first time she did it Holly was rocked & wobbly and the second time just looked like Germaine wanted to do it again. The only difference between those two situations was the knock down after the strikes. I don't believe that Lombard did this intentionally, it looked like he was in a sequences of strikes and as fighters know sometimes you are going with the flow. It was the ref job to get in there to avoid this from happening and CB was supposed to protect himself at all times, i know it was illegal but it was definitely a no contest over a DQ. A DQ was what Paul Daley did to Koscheck which is why he was kicked out of the ufc.

  8. Dolloway would be smart to keep acting like he wants to fight again but avoid Hector. He don't want that work again.
