5 rounds fights put athletes at risk while making fights less enjoyable for fans.

Chael Sonnen gives his argument for why there should no longer be 5 rounds fights in mixed martial arts and also why boxing fights should have fewer rounds. The risk to athletes is too great and most of the time, longer fights are less exciting.

  1. All the real injuries for both fights you brought up happened in the first 3 rounds. I personally think 3 rounds invite more reckless fighting since theres less rounds to win.

  2. Longer breaks between rds. Boxing has 90 sec breaks for 3 min rds. Longer breaks for mma fighters.

  3. Chael u have never been more right. The last Whittaker Romero fight convinced me of your argument. The human body is not designed to take 5 Rounds of that type of striking. Boxing is NOT the same. I agree that fighters go all out more in 3 Round fights. 5 Rounds almost forces a more conservative early approach. Also, too often fighters are completely gassed and hanging on by 5th Round.

  4. Professional men’s tennis championship round is 5 sets

  5. Chael, love your vids mate but you're always going on about how MMA isn't as much a sport, as it is "entertainment." And how guys shouldn't be complaining, for example, that they are being paid less if they don't hype up their fights etc. And now you're going on about safety and shit. Pick a side, at least. 5 rounds is pure entertainment, makes for the best moments in this sport, bar none.
