Dave Bonbright served as an historian for the film, “Cars,” and helped inform the filmmakers on their decision to choose a Hudson for the character, “Doc Hudson.” Check out his beautiful, reliable, “Fabulous Hudson Hornet!”

  1. Kind of funny and amazing that his car running 14.1 was beating GTO's. In the seventies if you Had a 13.7 car you could make a lot of money street racing. Then again a lot of money to me with 20 bucks. My friend had a 63 merc wagon that ran high thirteens and was just a money maker. We ate up to 289 Mustangs all day long all night long. One race we better guy $25 against his 67 Mustang. He had a really nice looking car but it was stock. He gave us way too many cars and we beat him pretty convincingly . It told us in the beginning he had no money but I remember he had this long hair and he bet that instead… Absolutely true story a said we could cut his hair if he lost he was that sure He would win. We never did cut his hair but he was a man of his word and was gonna let us cut his ponytail off . But it was all in good fun . Just a story alone went viral in Pasadena and morphed into that we shaved him bald. When off track but if you had a Car that ran thirteens that was a Sleeper you could always beat about 95% of people out there

  2. Such a "fabulous" car, indeed!

I heard Bill Albright's name dropped there, never knew Bill yet, I know his son Jason, out there at Vintage Coach. Great place to kick tires and they do great work. My neighbor up the street owns the only '36 Hudson Eight rumble seat coupe in the state, you may have seen it here and there. Such a great car, the crank case on those Hudson engines are huge! Especially the pre-war models. The Hornet is a great car and the 6 was an amazing engine.

Mr. Leno, great thing you're doing with this series, keeping the interest in these classic cars and telling people why they're important and special. Just in case you ever would like to see my buddy's '36 Hudson Eight rumble seat coupe, I'm sure he'd be thrilled to let you take it out for a spin. He's just a stone's through from Tired Iron works here in Monrovia.
