EPISODE 128: Survivor Series 1998

We are one year removed from the Montreal Screwjob and the tide has turned in the Monday Night War–the WWF is near clearly in the lead with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin feuding with “Mr. McMahon.” But the story of Survivor Series 1998 is about to further the lead that the WWF has when they crown their “next big thing” champion. The Rock became “the guy” at Survivor Series ’98 but HOW they got there was the most masterful part of the story. Vince Russo has said this was the best thing he ever wrote in wrestling and most agree. The story of Mankind and Vince McMahon, weaving in Shane McMahon and the Rock for weeks before the big reveal… the Rock is the Chairman’s hand picked Champion. The stage was set for WrestleMania 15 and what would become the biggest trilogy in the history of professional wrestling. Don’t miss the incredible story that made the Rock one of the youngest WWE Champions ever as Bruce and Conrad discuss Survivor Series 1998!

  1. Okay guys hear me out:

Honestly guys I wish there was a way we could talk about survivor series 2003. I know y’all like to do anniversaries on this show but the 15th anniversary of survivor series to me is just as good of a topic as 1998. This episode is gonna be good the whole story about rock/Austin/Mankind/Vince will be good. I know there’s a 80-90’s bias and I understand that. But we’ve got enough episodes about pay per views from that time line for ages. Survivor Series 2003 has some fun stuff that I think we’d like to know. Examples: Kane/Shane and all the stuff that went into that storyline would’ve been comedy gold. Vince/Taker buried alive we could’ve talked about how it was takers swan song with that gimmick and we could’ve heard some behind the scenes from that. People would’ve loved that! We could talk about team Eric vs team Steve. It would’ve been a great story. I understand the 80s-90s bias you guys have and I’m not knocking you for it. I love you’re content and I’m sure this episode is gonna be good. But my point is I’m not sure if it’s because I’m in my early 20s and I look forward to hearing about modern stuff. But my point is this I feel like there is some stuff post 2000 to 2008 you guys aren’t hitting on. I love all your episodes and I love all your wrestler bios. But I feel most pay per view episodes are from the 90’s. Some of my favorites episodes ever from this show are: Survivor Series 2002. (That’s my favorite) WrestleMania 19, Bad Blood 2003, heck even unforgiven 2008 was good. I wish we’d get more stuff from the year 2006 I’d give a lot to hear about stuff that happened that year. But more than anything please don’t hesitate to talk about all the awesome stuff that happens in 2004 next year. We wanna hear no way out 2004 and I’m so glad you said you were gonna do it. But we wanna hear about wrestlemania 20 we wanna hear Great American Bash 2004, Judgement Day 2004. Just to name a few. Just a friendly (long) reminder that there’s good stuff post 90s wrestling.

  2. Anybody else heard just about enough of 98? Don’t get me wrong, I’m still gonna listen, but goddamn I think I know the entire history day by day of 1998 wwf at this point. Motherfucker…..

  3. I hope they do Survivor Series 93 one day. That has to be one of the most do bad it was good PPV’s of it’s era.
