Just a novice suggestion for what might be causing the low resolution issue. Some digital cameras are not great in low light. I know you like the ambience of the low light set up in the studio, but you might want to consider having some light boxes, or checking the exposure settings on your digital cameras. Not trying to be a smart arse, just hoping my suggestions might help.
