  1. Styledrooper fails to land ONE effective strike – Like Thomas – "His striking was next level!"
    36 minutes of NOTHING.

  2. Instead of measuring time spent in each stance, it would be easier to list/count which stance each of the already tracked strikes came from. Not exactly the same information you requested, but it would show which stance had a higher success/failure rate, and which stance was favored for executing actual strikes.

  3. Respect to both fighters but Israel's striking pedigree is outta this world. Thanks for the painstaking analysis, Luke

  4. This was a really great commentary on high level mma striking. Adesanya is setting a new benchmark with his tremendous skill. As a long time fan of Silva who has watched him fighting since Pride, I'll admit I thought the first time I saw the fight that Silva was closer in terms of winning the fight. But I recognize my bias. Upon review it is clear that Adesanya rightly deserves the unanimous decision.

Regarding the stance switching, I think a large part of Adesanya's particular switch is because he is so dangerous with that question mark kick. Each step he makes which brings him into boxing range is also a potential head kick and likely KO. He has what I would say the best timing and effective reach of anyone in the mma world by far. By effective reach I mean that he is in perfect alignment with his timing/footwork and the extension of his arm(or leg) to land a precise shot to wherever he pleases.

It is good to hear this discussion on stance switching in regards to mma because I feel it could be one of the most important elements in stand up striking, especially for mma. The strategy that goes into an advanced game like Adesanya's is truly amazing to see when you have experience with the striking game. Make no mistake Adesanya is changing the game for the entire sport. Just like how everyone knows bjj now and submission defense, perhaps in the future it will be common that fighters stance switch more and hit those angles with quick and precise shots. I love to see the evolution happening.
