After UFC 234, should our assessment of Israel Adesanya downgrade his standing? Is he overrated? While it’s entirely understandable his contemporaries like Chris Weidman and Paulo Costa would believe so, the argument upon close inspection misses the forest for the trees. Anderson Silva did show some vulnerabilities Adesanya might have, but the overall upside he demonstrated is the bigger story.

  2. Weidman is right, Adesanya is overrated or more accurately, unproven at the moment but 185 is so old that they need to create new contenders by matching them up a little soft.

    They did the same thing with Gastelum before he fought Jacare and they are doing the same thing with Costa.

  3. I just thought he would put more combinations together with more authority for the finish. I thought he would be a finisher in a pure striking match against a 43 year old. That's why I was disappointed.

  5. You can't give Israel a title shot after this that's it. He doesn't really knock guys out, and hasn't beat anybody in the top 5. So 1. he's not that entertaining 2. I find his personality more cringey than entertaining. 3. He doesn't have the resume to be the number 1 contender. This is not Nate Diaz were he is entertaining in the ring and outside of it despite not having a top resume. No need to have him jump over Jacare, Romero, or Gastelum.

    UFC has him now ranked 5 out of all the middleweights, and I agree. This guy looks like he throws with a lot of caution and runs when being pressed at all.

  6. Comment section riddled with the shit I’ve been saying for months: Adesanya is good but being way overhyped. If he was the best in the division and the future he should’ve waxed Anderson Silva. Dude is 43 and hasn’t fought in 2yrs. Adesanya is active, in his prime, and has plenty of experience. He fought the best kickboxers in Glory so it’s not like Silva is a step-up. Anderson wasn’t even ranked. SB should have destroyed him. Jacare or the winner of Romero/Costa💯

    You certainly wouldn't against Romero or Whittaker.
