How to increase fight IQ! GSP vs Khabib? New weight classes, Holloway vs McGregor

In this clip Coach Zahabi shares some gems on how to increase fight IQ. He talks about a potential Khabib vs GSP fight and how new weight classes would not only benefit weight cutting but would open doors to new champions and make for more interesting fights.

  1. Khabib and GSP will be a super fight. Both respect each other yet so eager to defeat each other. I'm playing all the scenarios in my head and just think Khabib edges it. Maybe that's because im #teamkhabib from the start.

  2. I like mixed weight fights and the old pride videos. Pro wrestling is interesting because of open weight, and creative illegal moves.

  4. you are very very knowledgeable coach….your videos are gold…please do videos on stand up techniques and tactics…we want more on fighting bigger opponents series…Is framing will work against every type of clinch?…

  5. I actually don't like champ champs too much. I actually think there's too much emphasis on championships right now. I really think the divisions should be so deep that guys would have a really hard time changing weight. Some guys cutting down and some guys bulking up. If the weight gaps are far enough apart the other divisions might get as deep as Lightweight. But y'know if championships are needed to market then so be it.

  6. Instead of having weight classes having 10 pounds apart, they should a percentage on the weight class at hand so it progressively increases.
    Example, if you say it should be 5% then (125 * 0.05) + 125 = 6.25 + 125 = 131.25 is the next weight class
Then you do the same calculation .for 131.25 etc.
5% is just an example of an idea, i am not saying it should be 5%.
The bigger guys get weight importance progressively decreases so we need to make up for that.
10 pounds mean different things for 205 and 125.

  7. If there's a 165 it should be a grand prix only division.8 fighters who have earned their position in either of the 2 divisions (170,155).This addresses Dana's claim that those who can't win a title at either weight class will flock to that division. A 8 man grand prix tournament will have fun matchups and once in a lifetime opportunities.Colby,Ben Askren(If he beats Lawler),Cowboy,Dustin Poirier,GSP,Khabib,Al Iaquinta Tony Ferguson are the types of guys who have the credentials to be a part of such a tournament.

  8. My opinion:
    – Add 165 division
    – Move 170 to 175

That's really important because a) many fighters would gain from a 165 division and b) the UFC would have much more options.
Till wouldn't have to have this awful weight cut. Woodley suffers much too from this cut. Gastelum could go back to Welterweight (at 175).
RDA, Cerrone, Chiesa, Alex Oliveira, Yancy Medeiros… all guys who are too big for 155 but too small for the big guys at 170 could have a new home at 165.
At the same time, big guys from 155 can go up to 165 too like Khabib, James Vick, Kevin Lee (!), Tony Ferguson (no problems with the cut but he is a big guy for 155).
All this will have an effect for other weight classes too. The big guys from 145 will maybe go up to 155 now because the fighters who are normally too big for them are at 165 now. Like Max Holloway who can be easily 155 champ and Brian Ortega who is a really big guy for 145. Aldo who suffers much during his cut can go up to 155.
    More possibilities for more fighters!
More fighters are fighting at their natural weight!
I just see advantages. ONE division will not drain the other divisions. But one thing has too stop: All the super fights are making the status "double champ" ridiculous. Champs should earn this right to challenge another champ and it should be rare to get this opportunity. THIS is draining the sport.

How they should start the 165 division: Make a tournament with all the fighters I mentioned. The winner gets the 165 belt and a 165 tournament honor strap.
