GSP to Retire After Khabib Nurmagomedov Fight Falls Through

Georges St-Pierre (GSP) is to set to retire Thursday, according to a report from TSN, the Canadian ESPN. That report stated GSP decided to call it career after an attempted bout with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov failed to materialize.

Was the UFC right for failing to make this fight? It depends. After GSP defeated Michael Bisping and won the middleweight title only to immediately drop it, the UFC likely didn’t want that happening. Lightweight already has existing problems trying to get the right fights made for Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz. If it was a money issue, they still likely reached the right outcome. If the bout was a possibility for a 165-pound division and the UFC still balked, that would be a mistake.

  1. I think that GSP wanted to fight Khabib, but not at 155 lbs. GSP wanted to cement his legacy by being the first 165 lb title holder. If Conor would have beaten Khabib, we wouldn't be talking about GSP's retirement. Dana would have given Conor what he wants (like he always does) and that would be a new title opportunity. Think about it. The GOAT (GSP) vs Conor (a three belt champion). The winner gets the new 165 lb title. For GSP it would also be his third different belt. If Conor wins he gets the new 165 lb belt and be the first person to ever hold four belts in four different weight divisions. Not only that, how many PPV buys are we talking? When the time is right there will be a 165 lb weight division. It will ONLY happen when Conor can fight for the belt though. The reason is because it must be the biggest PPV draw too

  2. This was a pointless discussion from you
Nothing of substance said by you

  3. Don't care about this fight. GSP needed to Woodley. Obviously he was scared ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿฟ

  4. Dana hattes GSP. Pwriod. This isnโ€™t about whther they could make it work, this was Dana punishing Canada and GSP the end.

  5. Why was Silva allowed to jump the queue with Adesanya? and promised a title fight if he beat Adesanya?

  6. No they are robbing the fans of potentially one of the best matchups of all-time…plain and simple, they are only looking at from a future money perspective, not from a potentially having an amazing fight that rekindles the brand and fans perspective. The old fans are the one's that buy ppv. Not the new fans. New fans will hear about the amazing fights from the older ufc fans. New fans are only interested in gimmick stuff that is short lived and doesn't elevate the true value of watching a sport, not a fake wwe wrestling match.
