You’re in for a real treat on this episode of Something’s Burning. Bert invites fellow comedians Brian Regan and Tom Papa over to make Rum Runners, homemade butter and Peanut Butter Brittle. Let’s see if Bert can get this one right.


Full Recipe:
BACON PEANUT BRITTLE AND RUM RUNNERS, HOMEMADE BUTTER

RUM RUNNERS:
– Combine 1 ounce of each into the cocktail shakers filled with ice:
– Light Rum
– Dark Rum
– Banana liqueur
– Blackberry liqueur
– Orange juice
– Pineapple juice
– A SPLASH of grenadine
– Strain into glass over fresh ice
– Float a little 151 Rum on top and light it on fire
– Garnish with orange slice

BACON PEANUT BRITTLE:
– Generously butter the foil-lined baking sheet
– Cook 16 slices bacon until crisp, drain, split in half
– Make the sugar candy
– Combine 1 ½ cups sugar, ¾ cup corn syrup and ½ cup water in a saucepan.
– Cook over medium-high heat until 260 degrees (10-12 minutes)
– Remove from heat and add
– 1 stick unsalted butter
– 1 ½ cups peanuts
– 1 teaspoon salt
– Stir once and continue cooking on medium-high until the syrup turns golden brown and reaches
285 degrees (5-10 minutes)
– Carefully stir in bacon halves and 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract and 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
– Cook until foam subsides and it darkens slightly (1-2 more minutes)
– Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and tilt it to form a thin layer
– Let cool then break into pieces

HOMEMADE BUTTER:
– Fill a jar with ½ cup heavy cream, screw on lid
– Shake 5-7 minutes until you hear a lump has formed and shake 1 minute more after that (after 2
minutes it will be whipped cream)
– Separate out the buttermilk
– Rinse the butter ball in a bowl with water. Keep rinsing until water is clear
– Mix in 1 teaspoon salt
