BJJ vs Wrestling – Narrated Roll – Firas Zahabi

In this episode I narrate a video I posted months ago rolling with Johnny Yates a decorated Greco-Roman wrestlers. This video is meant to highlight some of the interesting exchanges that occur between these two different grappling arts. Special thanks to Johnny for rolling with me and allowing me to film it even though this is bjj is not the discipline he is trained in.

  1. I can't think of a more anxious moment than feeling firas getting a hold of your ankle

  2. Can we invite bjj guys to wrestle s people can see that i goes both ways based on rule set

  3. What is the wrestler’s objective? A fall? Submissions? It seems like the wrestler is just flailing about without a real goal. In college wrestling, the top man would get between 2-4 points starting in the guard. It’s called a Turk. Yes, wrestling and Jujitsu are grappling arts. But their objectives are totally different. So the way the two are practiced are totally different. I have the utmost respect for Firas, but he’d lose a wrestling match against a high school state qualifier.

  4. I’m a folkstyle wrestler, and recently rolled with a purple belt and brown belts. I notice in our exchanges there are certain chains of movements that bjj guys are more comfortable with. Base disruption seems to be a concept that is preached in their techniques, and the feel is very very different from that of another wrestler. How many years of wrestling do you think equates to that of a purple belt? Or maybe what level wrestler equates to each belt ? I’m 20yrs old and plan to walk on a college team or strat training catch as catch can. It’d be awesome for you to watch a quick roll and maybe give a tip on how to handle sweeps as a smaller (135-140lbs)wrestler? https://youtu.be/pOjSorzSaso

    Thanks!!!

  5. What's the point to do bjj with a wrestler. Or you do grappling nogi or you limit him so much. Bjj has the advantage because it doesn't care about been on the floor or been on their back. Disavantage
