The Problem With Athletic Commissions | SiriusXM | Luke Thomas

Nevada will adopt the new Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), but not with the same definition of a grounded opponent. They are not the only state to carve out this exception. Other state athletic commissions make adjustments to other rules, all of them involving hugely difficult, complex and consequential aspects of about, leaving the fighter to worry about an array of competing rule sets. Is this really the best way to govern a sport? I’m not calling for the abolition of state governing bodies, but one can hardly view these as modern tools equipped with modern sensibilities.

The Luke Thomas Show airs weekdays, 3 to 6pm ET, on SiriusXM RUSH, channel 93.

  1. Close Luke, AUS & US opens are played on traditional court and the French open is clay. Point taken though

  2. Fighters put their hands down so it stalls attacks. Which shows how badly they would get fucked up.
