Ideal Rules and Judging System for MMA – Coach Zahabi

In this video coach talks about what rules and judging system would be best for determining the winner of a MMA fight. The current round system is definitely a disadvantage for grapplers and wrestlers. Coach suggest starting back on the ground in a standard position should a round end on the ground in a previous round.

  1. Please give this vid some publicity. I completely agree with all you said. I would also get rid of the gloves, make the fight a 30 minuite round and unban some stupid illegal strikes like the 12-6, (obviously not including strikes like a knee to the back which is legit something that would make the sport too dangerous).

  2. The problem with this is if you win round 1 by a narrow margin, round 2 you get figured out, round 3 you figure out your mistake and correct yourself and win the round again by a narrow margin. In this case, you cannot say the other guy is the better fighter just coz he won round 2 more dominantly. 10 point system sucks but its a sport and you have to let it be, if you judge the entire fight, fighters who made adjustments will always lose the fight.

  3. The strikers can make the same argument, if you were being lit up against the cage, the next round you should be against the cage lol

  4. Yeah, why have breaks? Strange when you think about it. Should be 15 minute fights until it ends. Would also take some of the edge away from these super explosive fellows.

  5. I agree with starting the new round in the closest position to make it more realistic and fair to grapplers…however if that is that case shouldn't we allow kicks and knees to downed opponents? That seems like the big advantage grapplers have that strikers are fighting against.

    Thoughts?

  6. Makes sense on the position side. Although the full 15 minute fight without breaks sounds good bcuz it's closet to a real fight maybe. However it may result in a boring fight. The 1 minute recovery gives time for people to come out fresh and can make for a more exciting fight. Starting how the round ended is a great idea though.
