83 Weeks #16: Randy Savage’s 1995 in WCW!

OHHHHHH YEAAAAAAH! Eric believes Hogan and Savage were almost interchageable as THE top star in the business. So it’s no wonder he wanted the “Macho Man” in WCW. Find out when he was “sold” on Savage once he was in power, who introduced the two, the details of how his deal was put together, where Slim Jim fit in, what concerns existed based on the Hogan-Savage relationship, why he was debuted the way he was, comparing the Hogan debut to his, how he got along with Sting, why he worked the early opponents he did, when Eric heard “the rumor” about Savage, what Savage told Eric, the four star match with Flair on PPV, the craziest thing you’ve ever heard about Steve Austin in WCW, why Savage never pinned Hogan clean, how Savage was at home, when and how Lanny was signed, why Angelo was booked in ’95, who put Flair in drag, his relationship with Liz, and of course the very interesting finish to World World War 3 in ’95 when Savage won the title for the first time. SNAP INTO IT!

  1. I think we can be honest, and it not be a slight now.

The first Bischoff show absolutely sucked. And 83 weeks the first 3 or 4 just wasn't that good, even when he said I fucked up, it was always with something to let him out of it being on him. And I think as he did calls and people reached out he came to the conclusion, yeah, I fucked up a lot,
But I did a lot of great things too that people remember, and the fans don't hate me for doing bad shit. And because of that, the last month or so
There has been MUCH less deflecting, because he's not scared of fan backlash anymore for it, and it's improved tremendously. He has the best podcast right now by far. Conrad is a genius for pulling this out of him. Thank you Eric for everything, both the gold and the shit. The truth is you had to see what worked to have a chance. It's EASY to look back and say the sub zero knock off was stupid and a waste. But MAYBE, maybe it takes off, and you catch on to one of the biggest National crazes and news stories at the time, and it brings in tons of kids to watch, skyrocketing ratings and buys, and acclaim takes notice and starts advertising and this leads to other huge gaming companies. So yeah, why not try. And same for other stupid ideas, not all of them of course, but most have at least some logic.

  2. Don't forget Randy vs steamboat. Talented on the mic and in the ring. No knock to Hogan but speaking total package being well rounded a better wrestler.

  3. Soooo..basically you're saying that Savage is just like Sosa from Scarface. " I like you Page, there's no lying in you..but don't you ever fuck me…don't you ever fuck me…oh yeah dig it."

  4. You don't have a f'ing clue, Eric, about the work Meltzer puts into his stories and assuming you do is unmitigated hubris.

  5. Randy savage is one of the greatest of all time a overall 6 time world champion he is definitely in my top 5 favorites of all time
